A tombstone in Baltimore, Maryland reads…

In Memory of ALEXANDER LAUDER… Death’s terror is the Mountain, Faith removes it…”

Alexander’s tombstone is a shining testament to faith in Christ. Interred not far away are the remains of the Master of the Macabre, Edgar Allen Poe.

Poe also acknowledged Death’s terror, but without Faith. In his epitaphic poem “Conqueror Worm,” Poe lamented:

 Edgar Allen Poe

“While the angels, all pallid and wan

Uprising, unveiling, affirm

That the play (of life) is the tragedy, ‘Man’

And it’s hero, the Conqueror Worm.”

He may have been right. All who die without Christ will be thrown into hell, where, “Their worm does not die… (and) everyone will be salted with fire.”

Have you embrace Jesus’ triumph over death, hell and the grave by placing your faith in him or are you one whom the ravens can croak but one dark, damning word:

Nevermore?
