From the tombstone of Nikos Kazantzakis in Crete:

“I don’t believe, I don’t hope, I don’t fear. I am free.”

Welcome to the SheepTrax Xpress Obituaries where we dare to ponder tombstone inscriptions in eternity’s light.

You may better know Kazantzakis as the man who wrote the blasphemous book The Last Temptation of Christ. He was a disciple of the nihilist philosopher Nietzsche who had declared God Is Dead.

Kazantzakis recreated Jesus in his own image; one destined to suffer and die in order to become “pure spirit.” His metaphysically muddled Jesus declares, “I was never crucified, never resurrected. I am the son of Mary and of Joseph the Carpenter of Nazareth. I am not the son of God, I am the son of man – like everyone else.”

Nikos Kazantzakis invented a false Jesus and will answer for it to the real One. Is the Jesus you serve genuine? Mormons believe he is an angel. Muslims believe him a prophet and nothing more. The Bible declares him to be God the Son, raised from the dead.

What do you believe about Jesus?

So, what will they put on your tombstone?
